Recently, "high specific energy and large capacity lithium-sulfur secondary battery and battery pack" developed by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "Dalian Compound Institute") with independent intellectual property rights passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal organized by China Light Industry Federation in Beijing. The appraisal opinion is that the overall technology of the project reaches the international advanced level, and the energy density reaches the international advanced level.
Specific energy is the energy emitted per unit weight or per unit volume of the battery, which is an important performance index of the battery. Lithium-sulfur battery is a kind of high specific energy secondary battery with abundant raw materials, friendly environment and low cost. It is also the next generation secondary battery technology that is closest to practical application. However, simple sulfur is an insulating material, the electrode has low reactivity and is easy to lose, and the battery engineering technology is relatively lacking, which seriously hinder the practical application of this kind of battery.
In recent years, the research group led by Chen Jian, a researcher of Dalian Compounds Institute, has solved a series of engineering and technical problems of lithium-sulfur battery, successively developed key materials and key components of high-performance battery, and developed large-capacity lithium-sulfur battery and battery pack technology.
Third-party testing reports show that the specific energy of the 35Ah battery developed by the research team reaches 566Wh/kg (measured at 25℃), the specific energy of the 39Ah battery reaches 616Wh/kg (measured at 50℃), and the specific energy of the 1kWh lithium-sulfur battery pack reaches 332Wh/kg. It is by far the world's highest specific energy lithium-sulfur battery and battery pack.
At the same time, the high-capacity lithium-sulfur battery passed third-party safety performance tests using standards for electric vehicle power batteries.
Recently, the research group has made important progress in the practical application of batteries, and developed China's first 12kWh lithium-sulfur battery-photovoltaic cell joint demonstration system with independent intellectual property rights, and successfully operated, laying a technical foundation for the practical application of lithium-sulfur batteries in energy storage power stations, automotive power sources and other fields.
